Kroll’s from Europe

If your name is Kroll, please contact me at robert@crull.com. Many of the Crull’s of America were descendants from the Kroll families of Europe. We know many of our family stayed behind in Europe. We would love to connect the families. Please contact me at robert@crull.com

Groll Participants Needed

If you are a male and your sirname is Groll, Graul, Grollen or other spellings of this name, please contact me to participate in the DNA project. Many of the original Crull/Croll/Crowl imigrants to the Colonies’s names were originally spelled with a G and with the Constant shift became spelled K or C.

DNA analysis of Colonial Crull families.

If you go to the link at the bottom, you will see that the first 5 DNA categories are from:

1. Christian Kroll of York County, PA d. 1758
2. Ulrich Croll of Mortonhouse
3. Peter son of Johann Christian of Mortonhouse or son of Christian on Mortonhouse
4. Mathias Krall b 1720 and also on Mortonhouse
5. Closely related to Mathias

Everyone has been under the assumption that these were all brothers or cousins. They may be but not all on the paternal line.

Christian of York is of Haplogroup I1 which is commonly the “Viking” haplogroup.

Ulrich and Peter/Christian/of Mortonhouse are an unusual form of Haplogroup R1b1b2. These two are the most closely related and could have been brothers or cousins on the male side.

Mathias is also of Haplogroup R1b1b2 but not closely related to Ulrich or Christian on the male side. Then there are many other Krull’s related to Mathias on the male line within 15-30 generations.

According to historians, Mathias, Ulrich and Christian (Frederick, MD) all traveled together to the colonies and were related in some form. From the DNA evidence we can see that Ulrich and Christian were related on the male line and Mathias was from a different male line. We think Christian of York was from the first marriage of one of the Croll/Krall ancestors and a different father.

Hypothesis: Christian(Frederick,MD), Ulrich were cousins or brothers on the paternal side and Mathias was step brother on the maternal side.

Christian Crull/Crall/Croll Signatures

The signatue below belongs to the Christian Croll who originally lived in Bucks County, PA and then  in 1773 they buy a farm in Frederick county, MD near the town of Thurmont.  In 1781 they sell this farm.  He has one son Peter who it is possible was John Peter Crull who moves to Bedford, County, PA.

Look at the signatur below.  It looks to me like he writes a long J through the middle then adds a C on the left and a k on the right.  Please comment on what you thnk his mark is.  Just C K or C J K?

The next signature is from Christian Croll of York County, PA.  They lived in the same timeframe in Colonial America.  This was provided by Larry Croll one of his descendents.  This was the signature on his will when he was in ill health.

Crull/Krull Coat of Arms

I have been searching for all the possible lines of Crull’s and I have decided that a good way to identify the major lines would be to identify the different Coat of Arms and the areas they came from.

According to Henry G. Crull, my ancestors spelled their name Krall.  Frank Allaben believes that the Krall’s of PA and then Frederick County, MD were descendents of a princely family anceiently seated in Bohemia, Kral of Dobra Voda.  This is the Krall family Shield.

Krall Coat of Arms

Krall Coat of Arms

This one is from the Crull’s of Normandy France who were of Norse descent and help conquer England and Ireland with William the Conqueror.  The motto “Nil Moror Ictus” (loosely translated as “do not delay when struck”).

Crull Normandy

The following coat of arms is from the Lubeck area of Germany.  I have also included the book from which this image originally came.  It is in German so enjoy.

The next two are from Edelleute and Sachsen Germany and are very similar so I would expect them to be the same family.

The last one is from the Edelleute, Nachtrage area.  This one looks like two families combined.

The following Krull Coat of Arms was sent to me by Hans Juergen Krull.
